ReplyDelete"The Impact of Social Media on Children, Adolescents and Families"
Hi Everyone!
I chose the article mentioned above because it had an interesting take on how social media impacts Teens and Children. The article discusses the negative and positive impact the media has from a clinical perspective. Teens and children can potentially be exposed to cyberbullying, sexting, "Facebook depression" as well as exposure to inappropriate content. While social media can potentially be harmful if not monitored, it also can be beneficial.
Pre teens and Teens engage in various forms of social media daily. It benefits are that it promotes social connection, enhances communication and makes teens computer savvy. Social Media enhances learning. Some high school and middle school students use social media to connect with friends to work on group projects discuss homework and exchange ideas with regard to assignments. Academic institutions are using social media routinely as a way on communicating not only with students but parents as well, to keep both student and parent up to date with current events, assignments and important dates on the school calendar.
There are both benefits and risks when using social media. As a parent, the key is to monitor your child's online activity, discuss its potential dangers and be aware of what your child/children are viewing.
